"Peace So Sweet"
I took a typographic collage workshop with Able Parris and decided to create a piece that represents my emotions after George Floyd was killed and when I participated in the Black Lives Matter march. I was thinking about the historical movements in our country like the flower power opposition to the Vietnam war, and how we as citizens have this amazing responsibility to speak up for the issues that affect us as a society. Advocacy for social justice is important to me and something that I intend to be a thread guiding me through the rest of my life.

This mural was painted by the people who live in this building shortly after George Floyd was killed. The event of his death was a devastating marker in our history and a defining moment in 2020. I'm grateful to have this homage to Mr. Floyd in my neighborhood, and think it's important to have reminders of those times in our daily lives.
